Quiet Please (we’ll soon begin…)
I am proud to announce that Fuller Arts Concerns and Empty Frames Productions will be hosting David Bazan at Fuller in Travis Auditorium on November 8th.
All of the relevant ticketing information can be found here.
Johanna Chase will be the opening act, starting at 7:30.
David Bazan was the creative force behind Pedro the Lion and Headphones and has now started out on a solo career. He is releasing a DVD documenting his artistic journey and is a voice worth listening to.
He resonates with me deeply.
He finds himself on the edge of a Christian culture and music industry that wanted him to walk the halls of Christian Rock, in all its boring and gaudy trappings, fellow “artists” sipping grape juice, careful to keep their soul patches clean.
Then he cussed.
He questioned the political ideologies that lined the walls of the hall.
He talked bad about the architect that built the imposing hall, wondered about its purpose.
He was kicked out, left on the street, still making music that mattered. They took their grape juice back.
Music critics (namely the ever-evil Pitchfork) were curious. Pedro was good. Real good, but their spiritual themes and metaphoric exploration of faith, politics, love and infidelity was too much. Besides, the Christians had liked this guy. They tried to dismiss him in spite of his immense talent, affective ability, and lyrical genius. The kids still loved him.
So he hangs out in a liminal place, neither here nor there. Not Christian enough, too Christian, whatever. I am pretty sure he has started to make more direct statements in recent years about his faith. But, you should come to the show and find out for yourself…
I’m still looking for a few more good people to help out during the night, so let me know and I will get you in for free and set you up with a job (will call, hospitality, merch table, etc.).
Tell all your friends.

i reckon i will be swimming thru the time-space continuum to work the merch booth. long as i can sip christmas whiskey with the man….
i wish i could go. i can’t go. if i could go, i think i’d like to take on the role of someone who wears black and moves things on stage. think you could hook that up?
[...] night I went to an intimate and beautiful David Bazan Concert hosted by Empty Frames and Tim Haydock. Johanna Chase opened, rocking our bras off with powerful and playful anthems of sex-spirit-uality. [...]
